- DEVICES
EVRLB supports the RA60, RA80, RA81 and RA82 Disk Drives. These may be
attached to a UDA50 or KDB50. The UDA50 can be attached to a DW730,
DW750, DW780, or DWBUA. For the VAX 8800, the KDB50 and DWBUA must be
attached to the NBIBn.

This formatter does not support the UDA50 with boards M7161 and M7162
or any UDA50 with microcode version two or less. DO NOT RUN A
PREVIOUSLY RELEASED FORMATTER!! AN OLDER FORMATTER WILL INCORRECTLY
FORMAT THE DISK!!
- HELP
EVRLB V5.1 is a Level 3 formatter for the disks in the UDA50 or KDB50 DISK
SUBSYSTEM. EVRLB will ONLY format a disk attached to a UDA50 with modules
M7485 and M7486 and with microcode version three or greater, or a disk
attached to a KDB50 with modules T1002 and T1003 and microcode version 1 or
greater. This formatter does not support the UDA50 with boards M7161 and
M7162 or any UDA50 with microcode version two or less. DO NOT RUN A
PREVIOUSLY RELEASED FORMATTER!! AN OLDER FORMATTER WILL INCORRECTLY FORMAT
THE DISK!!
WARNING: THIS FORMATTER PROGRAM SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A DIAGNOSTIC
TOOL. RUN THIS PROGRAM ONLY AS INSTRUCTED IN THE DISK
DRIVE'S SERVICE MANUAL.
THE LENGTH OF TIME REQUIRED TO RUN THIS FORMATTER IS
DEPENDENT ON THE STORAGE OF THE DISK DRIVE
AND THE NUMBER OF BAD BLOCKS FOUND.
TYPICAL DURATIONS ARE:
RA80: 20 - 30 MINUTES
RA60: 30 - 45 MINUTES
RA81: 45 - 60 MINUTES
RA82: 90 - 120 MINUTES
NOTE: ONCE A FORMAT HAS BEGUN ON A DRIVE, ABORTING THE FORMATTER BEFORE
THE FORMAT IS COMPLETE WILL LEAVE THE DRIVE IN AN UNUSEABLE STATE.
THE UDA50 OR KDB50 WILL SPIN DOWN SUCH A DISK AND NOT ALLOW IT TO
BE BROUGHT ONLINE.
THE SEARCH FLAG AND MULTIPLE PASSES ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS
PRODUCT.
For each of the folowing parameters, type "HELP EVRLB parameter"
- QUICK
The QUICK flag has no effect in this program.
- SECTION
Defines the formatter sections (/SECTION qualifier on RUN or START)
which this formatter supports.
- DEFAULT
THIS SECTION IS IDENTICAL TO REFORMAT
This section will reformat a disk connected to a UDA50 using the bad
sector file that is written on the disk. No questions are asked.
To run this section type:
RUN EVRLB or
RUN EVRLB/SECTION:DEFAULT or
RUN EVRLB/SECTION:REFORMAT
or you can type:
LOAD EVRLB then
START or
START/SECTION:DEFAULT or
START/SECTION:REFORMAT
after selecting all disks to be formatted.
- RECONSTRUCT
THIS FORMATTING MODE IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED. USE REFORMAT
SECTION INSTEAD.

- SUMMARY
The Summary report gives the number of disks to be formatted, the number
of formats in progress, the number of formats complete and the number of
formatting failures. It is not recommended to use 'control C' to
interrupt the program in order to print the summary report because the
controller may hang, causing the drive to be dropped offline. If that
happens, the disk drive will need to be formatted again before it is
usable.
