- HELP
EVDPC is a level III repair level diagnostic for the PCL11-B
Parallel Communications Link Differential TDM Bus.
Other VAX PCL11 diagnostics are EVDPD (Level III Exerciser)
and EVDPE (Level IIR Exerciser)
Help about general DIAGNOSTIC SUPERVISOR topics is available
via the standard "HELP" commands.
- DEVICE
EVDPC tests the PCL11-B Interface. The Parallel Communications
Link (PCL11-B) is an interface which creates a Time Division
Multiplexed (TDM) bus over which several PDP-11 and VAX computers
can transfer data to each other. Each interface consists of a
transmitter, receiver and master section. The transmitter section
may transfer parallel 16-bit words along the TDM bus to a receiver
section of a separate PCL11 housed on a different PDP-11 or VAX
computer's UNIBUS. One of the PCL11 units attached to the TDM
bus must have its master section enabled. This logic will
generate the necessary timing signals for proper data transfer.
- PCL11
Device: Parallel Communications Link
Link: DWn
Recommended Generic: XPa
Additional information:
UNIBUS CSR [Octal 760000-777776]
UNIBUS vector [Octal 0-776]
UNIBUS BR level [Decimal 4-7]
NOTE!!! The "a" in the Generic Name MUST be the TDM address
of this VAX System/Node.
NOTE!!! The "Red" Enable/Disable switch on the PCL11 must be in
the disable position (positioned away from the TDM cable).
NOTE!!! The Transmitter address must be the same as the Receiver
address or the diagnostic will fail.
Other VAX PCL11 diagnostics are EVDPD(Level III) and EVDPE (Level IIR)
- ATTACH
ATT DW780 SBI DW0 3 4 ; attaches UBA TO 11/780
OR
ATT DW750 CMI DW0 ; attaches UBA to 11/750
For device specific attach information type the following:
HELP EVDPC ATTACH {device name}
The following device name is supported:
PCL11
- PCL11
DS> ATT PCL11 DW0 XP2 764200 360 5 ;Attaches PCL11 at address 764200
;with vector 360 and BR level 5
;Note: The XPa has selected the
;PCL at TDM bus address 2. If the
;correct TDM address is not entered
;the diagnostic will fail on
;Test 20.
DS> SEL XP2
DS> SET WIDTH 132
DS> START
THE PROGRAM SHOULD NOW BE RUNNING.
- DATA-PATTERNS
Complete descriptions of the many test patterns used are given in
the program document for EVDPC.
- SECTIONS
There are no sections in this diagnostic other than the DEFAULT
section
- EVENT-FLAGS
There are no event flags used by the diagnostic
- QUICK
The QUICK feature is implemented in this diagnostic. It however,
has little affect as the diagnostic runs in less than one minute.
- SUMMARY
The SUMMARY section is not implemented by this diagnostic.
- ERRORS
NOTE!!! The diagnostic error messages are easier to read if the console
is set to 132 columns (e.g. SET WIDTH 132).
Errors are reported by the program as they occur (if not
inhibited). The report conforms to the diagnostic supervisor
error report format, and consists of a description of the
error, the test number, subtest number, device name, and
basic and extended error information.
The following are examples of typical PCL11 errors:
Note: If the wrong TDM identification number (address) is
entered in the ATTACH command TEST 20 will fail.
Test 20: DATA LOOPS TESTS
******** EVDPC PCL11 REPAIR DIAGNOSTIC - 1.0 ********
Pass 1, test 20, subtest 0, error 305, 21-JUL-1982 17:25:24.23
Hard error while testing XP3: NO RCVR DATA OUT READY IN TWO MS
******** End of Hard error number 305 ********
Note: The next error was caused by placing the TDM bus
connect switch in the ENABLE state (should be DISABLED).
The switch should be switched away from the TDM cable
and connector.
Test 19: NPR TEST - SILO TO SILO
******** EVDPC PCL11 REPAIR DIAGNOSTIC - 1.0 ********
Pass 26, test 19, subtest 0, error 304, 21-JUL-82 17:30:53.68
Hard error while testing WC2, BAD DATA NPR'D TO XMTR SILO
GOOD: 052525(O) XD14,XD12,XD10,XD08,XD06,XD04,XD02,XD00
BAD: 000000(O)
XOR: 052525(O) XD14,XD12,XD10,XD08,XD06,XD04,XD02,XD00
******** End of Hard error number 304 ********
- REQUIREMENTS
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS :
VAX processor with minimum configuration (11/780,11/750,etc.)
512 kb memory (minimum)
PCL11-B
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS :
VAX diagnostic supervisor (ESSAA/ECSAA/ENSAA - version 6.7 or later)
must be resident in memory. (the supervisor must first be loaded,
and successive diagnostics can then be loaded and run, without
re-loading the supervisor).
NOTE!!! The diagnostic error messages are easier to read if the console
is set to 132 columns (e.g. SET WIDTH 132).
- TIMING_ADJUSTMENT
Adjustment of the time phase clock may be accomplished by
running Test 6 infinately. An example of executing this test
is as follows:
DS> ATT PCL11 DW0 XP2 764200 360 5 ;Attaches PCL11 at address 764200
;with vector 360 and BR level 5
;Note: The XPa has selected the
;PCL at TDM bus address 2.
DS> SEL XP2
DS> CLEAR TRACE
DS> START/TEST:6:6/PASS:0 ;Execute test 6 infinately
.. Program: EVDPC PCL11 REPAIR DIAGNOSTIC, Revision 1.0, 22 tests,
at 15:35:08.77.
Testing: _XP2
^C ;Control C will exit the diagnostic
;when adjustment is complete
