- HELP
EVDFG is a level 2R, User Mode Diagnostic for the DR780 and
DR750 options. It thoroughly tests the operation of the DR under test
in a DR to DR configuration which enables complete checkout of DR
functions using QIO through the VMS DR Driver.
This diagnostic requires the DR under test to be configured in a
certain manner prior to starting the test. See the section on
REQUIREMENTS (type HELP EVDFG REQUIREMENTS).
This diagnostic also requires SYSTEM and DIAGNOSE priviledges in order
to run. Note also that the microcode must be loaded prior to starting
This is done under VMS by typing (after the "$" VMS Prompt):
$ MCR XFLOADER ;This requires SYSTEM priviledges
- DEVICE
EVDFG supports the DR780 and DR750 options. Both are high speed
parallel bus interfaces, which allow users direct memory access via
the SBI (DR780 to SBI for a VAX 11/780) or CMI (DR750 to CMI for a
VAX 11/750). The DR780 consists of 4 Hex boards while the DR750
consists of 1.
For more information type HELP DEVICE DR750 or HELP DEVICE DR780.
- ATTACH
The following format is used to attach a DR to be tested for this test:
ATT, DR7n0, link, generic name, TR/Slot, BR, self test?, 1 or 2 CPU?,
Unit Under Test?
The following ATTACH examples cover all configuration
possibilities pertaining to this Diagnostic:
VAX 11/780 (configuration = 1 CPU, 2 DR780)
DS> ATTACH DR780 SBI XFA0 (TR LEVEL) 6 NO 1CPU YES
DS> ATTACH DR780 SBI XFB0 (TR LEVEL) 6 NO 1CPU NO
VAX 11/780 (configuration = 2 CPU, 2 DR780)
DS> ATTACH DR780 SBI XFA0 (TR LEVEL) 6 NO 2CPU YES
DS> ATTACH DR780 SBI XFA0 (TR LEVEL) 6 NO 2CPU NO
VAX 11/750 (configuration = 1 CPU, 2 DR750)
DS> ATTACH DR750 CMI XFA0 (SLOT NUMBER) 6 NO 1CPU YES
DS> ATTACH DR750 CMI XFB0 (SLOT NUMBER) 6 NO 1CPU NO
VAX 11/750 (if configuration = 2 CPU, 2 DR750)
DS> ATTACH DR750 CMI XFA0 (SLOT NUMBER) 6 NO 2CPU YES
DS> ATTACH DR750 CMI XFA0 (SLOT NUMBER) 6 NO 2CPU NO
VAX 11/750 and VAX 11/780 (config = 2 CPU, 1 DR750 and 1 DR780)
If DR780 is the Unit Under Test (UUT)
DS> ATTACH DR780 SBI XFA0 (TR LEVEL) 6 NO 2CPU YES
DS> ATTACH DR750 CMI XFA0 (SLOT NUMBER) 6 NO 2CPU NO
If DR750 is the Unit Under Test (UUT)
DS> ATTACH DR750 CMI XFA0 (SLOT NUMBER) 6 NO 2CPU YES
DS> ATTACH DR780 SBI XFA0 (TR LEVEL) 6 NO 2CPU NO
Select the units for testing
Note that in the 2 CPU cases, the KGU (which is not the DR under test)
MUST be called XFA0. This is a requirement of VMS that the first
(or only) DR on a system must be XFA0.
NOTE: THE BR LEVEL USED HERE IS FOR EXAMPLE ONLY ALTHOUGH THIS IS THE
MOST LIKELY VALUE TO BE ENCOUNTERED. THE LEGAL RANGES FOR THE TR LEVEL
OR SLOT NUMBER AND BR LEVEL CAN BE FOUND BY TYPING
HELP DEVICE DR780 or HELP DEVICE DR750.
- SECTIONS
There are no separate sections in EVDFG.
- EVENT-FLAGS
Event flags are not used by this diagnostic.
- QUICK
The QUICK feature is not implemented in this diagnostic. The diagnostic
execution time is approximately 2 minutes for an error free pass.
- SUMMARY
The SUMMARY section is not implemented by this diagnostic.
- MANUAL
There is no manual section in this diagnostic.
- REQUIREMENTS
The CPU and SBI/CMI must be known good prior to running this diagnostic
and the DR under test must be set up in the following way.
Hardware: 1 or 2 VAX 11/780 CPUs and/or 1 or 2 VAX 11/750 CPUs
2 DR780 or 2 DR750 or 1 DR780 and 1 DR750 interfaces configured
as follows:
1). DR780 connected to DR780 (both on 1 CPU or each on
a separate CPU)
DR780 connected to DR750 (must be each on it's own
CPU)
DR750 connected to DR750 (both on 1 CPU or each on
a separate CPU)
The DR under test must supply the clock and control CI Arbitration
If DR750:
For the DR750 to be the source of the DI Clock the following
DR750 backplane pin must be jumpered:
pin A25 to GND
The DR750 will control CI Arbitration if there is no jumper on
pin A26, so if a jumper is present, it must be removed.
If DR780:
For the DR780 to be the source of the DI Clock and control the
CI Arbitration, the following jumpers must be removed from
DR780 backplane pins:
W7 and W8
If a jumper is present on either of these pins, they must be
removed.
NOTE: Be careful that both DR's are not driving the clock
at the same time or that neither is.
512KB of memory is required (if 2 CPU configuration the 512K
on each processor).
Software: Diagnostic Supervisor version 6.4 or higher and VMS version
3.0 or higher.
You may now run the diagnostic. After running the diagnostics, you
should restore the DR to its original state.
