- HELP
EVDFF is a level 2R, User Mode Diagnostic for the DR780 and
DR750 options. Basic self test diagnostic commands are used to
check out the operation of the DR as much as possible in this mode.
This diagnostic requires the DR under test to be configured in a
certain manner prior to starting the test. See the section on
REQUIREMENTS (type HELP EVDFF REQUIREMENTS).
This diagnostic also requires SYSTEM and DIAGNOSE priviledges in order
to run. Note also that the microcode must be loaded prior to starting

- DEVICE
EVDFF supports the DR780 and DR750 options. Both are high speed
parallel bus interfaces, which allow users direct memory access via
the SBI (DR780 to SBI for a VAX 11/780) or CMI (DR750 to CMI for a
VAX 11/750). The DR780 consists of 4 Hex boards while the DR750
consists of 1.

- ATTACH
The following format is used to attach a DR to be tested for this test:
ATT, DR7n0, link, generic name, TR/Slot, BR, self test?, 1 or 2 CPU?,
Unit Under Test?
ATT DR780 SBI XFA0 13 6 YES 1CPU YES ; attaches DR780 TO 11/780 SBI
OR
ATT DR750 CMI XFA0 15 6 YES 1CPU YES ; attaches DR750 to 11/750 CMI
SELECT XFA0 (XFan) ; selects device to be run.
If the configuration is DR connected to a second DR on the same CPU,
then the second DR (the Known Good Unit or KGU) must also be attached
and selected in order to run this test. The only difference from the
above example would be the TR Level (DR780) or Slot Number (DR750) (and
possibly the BR level) and the last field would be NO (this answers the
question "is this the unit under test. Also, the second DR on a CPU
MUST when running under VMS be named XFB0 (The first MUST be called
XFA0).

For information on Attaching and running this test when the
configuration is DR to DR, 2 CPU, type HELP EVDFF ATTACH 2CPU

If the configuration is DR connected to a second DR on a second CPU,
this test will start the second DR if it is loaded into that CPU (after
loading microcode under VMS via "MCR XFLOADER) and attached as follows:
ATT DR780 SBI XFA0 13 6 YES 2CPU NO ; attaches DR780 TO 11/780 SBI
OR
ATT DR750 CMI XFA0 15 6 YES 2CPU NO ; attaches DR750 to 11/750 CMI
SELECT XFA0 (XFan) ; selects device to be run.
This system must be started prior to starting the system with the DR to
be tested. Note that even though this is not the DR under test it MUST
be called XFA0. This is a requirement of VMS that the first (or only)
DR on a system must be XFA0.
The DR to be tested in this configuration would be attached as follows:
ATT DR780 SBI XFA0 13 6 YES 2CPU YES ; attaches DR780 TO 11/780 SBI
OR
ATT DR750 CMI XFA0 15 6 YES 2CPU YES ; attaches DR750 to 11/750 CMI

There are no separate sections in EVDFF.
- EVENT-FLAGS
Event flags are not used by this diagnostic.
- QUICK
The QUICK feature is not implemented in this diagnostic. The diagnostic
execution time is approximately 2 minutes for an error free pass.
- SUMMARY
The SUMMARY section is not implemented by this diagnostic.
- MANUAL
There is no manual section in this diagnostic.
- REQUIREMENTS
The CPU and SBI/CMI must be known good prior to running this diagnostic
and the DR under test must be set up in the following way.
Hardware:
1 VAX 11/780 CPU or VAX 11/750, 1 DR780 or DR750 interface configured
as follows:
1). DR780 or DR750 connected to DR device. The DR under test must be
supplying the clocks.

The signal line DI DISABLE must not be asserted from the DR device.
i.e the far end must be running if connected. (Type HELP EVDFF
ATTACH 2CPU if the far end DR device is a DR on a second CPU)

2). DR DISCONNECTED FROM THE DDI
If DR750:
The DR750 must be the source of the DI Clock. This is done by
jumpering the following DR750 backplane pins:
pin A25 to GND
The DR must control the CI Arbitration. This will be
the case if there is no jumper on pin A26, so if a jumper is
present, it must be removed.
If DR780:
The DR780 must be the source of the DI Clock and control the
CI Arbitration. This is done by removing jumpers from backplane
pins:
W7 and W8
If a jumper is present on either of these pins, they must be
removed.
A. Install DR32 Loopback connector (part no. 7018510-0-0)
B. If no Loopback available
a). DR780 disconnected from the DDI
The clock lines must be jumpered (CLKAB TO CLKBA). This is done
by jumpering on the backplane the following lines:
slot 4 - EM1 TO ER1
EM2 TO ER2
b.) DR750 disconnected from the DDI
CLKAB must be jumpered to CLKBA so jumper the following
DR750 backplane pins:
C39 to C53
C40 t0 C54
Software: Diagnostic Supervisor version 6.4 or higher and VMS version
3.0 or higher.
You may now run the diagnostic. After running the diagnostics, you
should restore the DR to its original state.
