============================ Damned News and Info ============================ Message: 3/3 Posted Author Lost Souls Mon Oct 25 Claribel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ With the race quota the mush now has, Demons are a category highly in demand. For players who would just like to get in on the supernatural scene and experience some Hell RP, I'd like to recommend the option of creating a Lost Soul puppet. Lost Souls are by far the majority of Hell's populace. They can come from any era of history, and their forms range from the traditional shrouded ghost, skeleton or ghoul, to a near-replica of their living selves. By making a puppet, you can keep your main PC character on Earth and still get a taste of Infernal RP.. which will also help you develop a Demon character if you decide to play one later on. Here are some possible concepts for Lost Souls: Personal Servant or Slave to one of the Demon Lords. Contact your favorite Lord to apply. Escaped/Freed Slave: In the recent War in Hell, many Demons on both sides were lost in battle. When their masters were destroyed, the souls who served them would have been released from their bonds. -Staying- free, of course, is another matter.. ISL Member: The souls in this faction are those who've managed to join together for the freedom and survival of their own kind. The ISL is not actively hostile to Demons, but seeks to aid those who suffer, and heal the pain of the Realm. Wanderer: Some souls are bound to no particular master, but are free (relatively, at least) to wander where they will, getting tortured and abused at random. If you want to create a Lost Soul, just chargen your puppet as a Damned Human and drop it into Hell via the Chasm (this will automatically reset its realm. It would also be helpful to set your puppet 'dark' in your @disconnect, so that inactive puppets won't clutter up Hell.) For additional theme information, please contact me or the Damned STs. ============================================================================== ============================ Damned News and Info ============================ Message: 3/6 Posted Author Word of Warning Sun Nov 14 Starsmore ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To all the demon/damned newbies out there: Yes, the City is controlled by the Damned and the Demons. But that doesn't mean you can use it as your personal buffet/shooting range. If a Damned or a Demon attacks another Damned, Demon, or even an Unchosen, without proper cause (IE: Anything other then self defense), then the Citadel will be forced to take action against you, according to the new policies Asmo and I are setting up. Just a word of warning, think before you act. Danke S ============================================================================== ============================ Damned News and Info ============================ Message: 3/17 Posted Author Knightly musings.. Sun Dec 5 Asmodeus ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In an effort to further define the various titles and positions within the Hierarchy, I've taken some time to examine models of Feudalism throughout history. None of this is as-yet official, and I am merely one man with one mindset. If you'd like to help contribute to an expended +news file on the Hierarchy please send me some +mail, regardless of whatever your name may be. All suggestions and ideas will be reviewed and appreciated. At the bottom level of the Hierarchy lies the position of Knights. Historically a Knight was a trained warrior whom was offered some power and land by a Lord in exchange for protecting him during times of peace and fighting alongside him during times of war. Although nowadays Knighthood is bestowed as an honorary title for services in the Arts, Sciences, and Political fields but make no mistake...Sir Paul McCartney is still sworn to defend the British Isles from invasion. Proposed Armageddon Rules: Any Hierarch Member is free to bestow the title of Knight upon a PC servant. A Demon Lord is limited in the amount of Knights he/she/it may maintain based upon their standing. A Captain may have up to 1 Knights in their employ, a Lord/Lady 2, a Baron/Baroness 3, a Count/Countess 4, and a Duke/Duchess 5. A Knight performing a mission for their Lord is afforded much leeway from the local authorities, and is able to request a reasonable amount of assistance/aid from those authorities (Citadel, Bank, etc.). Note that this is only a courtesy step above the law; attempts to overthrow the Bank, Citadel, and other major Damned institutions - or just being detrimental to the Damned cause itself - may result in those Knightly priveledges being waived. A Lord may strip one of his/her/its Knights of the title at will. Should the Lord die (or become idlenuked, lose access, etc.) the Knight may attempt to claim the title of Captain. Otherwise the Knight may join another Hierarch or lsoe the title completely. Although unable to hold land or maintain forces, a Knight is free to sit in but not vote during Hierarchy meetings. A Knight is addressed as, 'Sir,' if male or, 'Dame,' if female. Coming soon: Captains - Landed Knights, Asmo. ============================================================================== ============================ Damned News and Info ============================ Message: 3/18 Posted Author Captains: Lord Knights Sun Dec 5 Asmodeus ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've got some time, so here are the thoughts on Captains.. Historically there has never really been a title of nobility such as a 'Captain'. It was primarily a military rank signifying the leader of a Lord's household guard. Knights that were prosperous enough were often trusted by a high-ranking Lord to manage a corner of their lands for them. The Knight then became landed, and was able to establish his own manor and personal retinue. Proposed Armageddon Rules: A Knight may be raised to the title of Captain by either a Count/Countess or a Duke/Duchess. Captains are allowed to maintain a small domain in Hell if they so desire, and may purchase a small number of troops to defend it. In addition a Captain may have 1 Knight in his/her/its employ. Although the Captain may be in service to a higher noble, his/her/its Knight is sworn to the Captain. The higher noble may strip the Captain of title at will, or if chosen by a Hierarch vote, the Captain may be elevated to the title of Lord. The Captain may also vote during Hierarchy meetings. Captains are often made the 'middlemen' for the Demon Princes, managing much of the day-to-day decisions involving the Damned cause. Sometimes as a reward for service to the Realm of Hell (managing the Citadel, Bank, etc.) the Hierarchy will bestow the rank of Captain upon an individual. The proper form of address, regardless of gender, is 'Captain'. In works: Lords - Supervisors of the War, Asmo. ============================================================================== ============================ Damned News and Info ============================ Message: 3/20 Posted Author Lords: Middle Management Sat Dec 11 Asmodeus ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Back in the feudal period the term 'Lord' referred to any noble that possessed land, a Manor, and employed men to either work his fields or defend his area. They were often themselves the vassals to the higher nobility - Barons, Counts, Viscounts, Dukes, and Kings. Often the Lord was granted land on the very border with an enemy nation. This land was called a 'march', for the noble had to gain his land by pressing forward against the hostile neighbor. If successful, the landholder was known as a 'Marquis'. Thus goes the same with Hell's nobility. Proposed Armageddon Rules: An ambitious Captain may become elevated to the status of Lordship by one of two ways. The first, through the death (idlenuking, lost access, etc.) of the Captain's direct superior. This requires an Application to the Damned STs, along with IC means of making the jump (Player support, factions, etc.). The second method of raising rank is to request the title from the Captain's superior. The superior must either be a Count/Countess or a Duke/Duchess. In addition to this a vote must be passed within the Hierarchy. If successful, the Captain is made a Lord and is granted the authority to lay claim to a 'domain'. This may be an area of land or a faction. Should the Lord have a sponsoring superior their domains will become untouchable, and cannot be assaulted directly by another member of the Hierarchy (Although actions the Hierarchy does not perceive they cannot meet with punishment). This right may be removed by a Hierarchy vote. Should the Lord not have a spons soring suprerior then they may still lay claim to their domain, however they will not gain the protection from other members of the Hierarchy. Although the superior can no longer strip the Lord of his/her/its title (vote needed), the superior alone is free to make hostile actions against the Lord's domain. Rules correction: Considering the idea of allowing Barons to also promote to Captain. Each Demon Prince may maintain only 1 Captain. Coming Soon: Barons - Overlords Asmo. ============================================================================== ============================ Damned News and Info ============================ Message: 3/24 Posted Author Notes on Power Tue Jan 4 AsmoOOC ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As some of you may know there has been a minor debate going around between myself and certain Players as to factual IC Theme. I've been low-key about it, and now that things have been settled I'd like to offer some explanations behind my view on Power. No names will be mentioned and no individual persons will be pointed out. I'm only pointing to the events, and I am not insulting any people that play Characters on here. I talk to a large portion of the Damned Playerbase on here every day. I remember various names and try to match them with comments and ideas they've presented to me in the past. Lots of people come to me looking for Power, and invariably some become disappointed because of the terms I assign them to complete before they can be offered the Power. Of these people, all of them claim I am being unfair and biased personally against them. I can only ask them, "Did you really expect to not have to work for it?" Nobody gets free Power out of Hell. No-One. If you believe being Damned is all about getting exactly what you wanted then I cannot help you; Heaven, however, might be a suitable alternative. Down here to obtain Power one must first be ambitious, then they must be clever, then they must face risks equalled to the Power they aspire to, then they must make a great effort to further their goals, and finally they must make a sacrifice - giving up something important in exchange for the Power. When people come to me demanding (not asking, mind you) something I always look at the model I described when I deal with them. I ask them, "What have you done to earn this benefit?", and more often than not they read off a list of inconsequential credentials. A Player has been on here for 4 years, therefore they are entitled to becoming a Duke in the Hierarchy...folks, if that was good logic then I would have to make everyone from realtime a Demon Lord. They claim that others in the past have acquired the same Power easily, without the restrictions I have placed on them presently...by this reasoning, people in real life are entitled to shoot innocent bystanders in the face just because someone did it in the past. When they are finished justifying why their Character is deserving of ruling over Earth or Hell, having a Spirit Level of 16, or being 'officially' declared of divine ancestry I look at the only factor that matters: What they have done for the MUSH and other Players. There is nobody on here whose Character is so important that they cannot meet with someone on a streetcorner and talk. If you feel that your high and mighty would-be deity is incapable of obtaining their Power with the assistance of other PCs then I cannot help you; all I can do is run a TP whereby your Character retires to the Great Beyond, to discover the real purpose behind the Universe. My job is to provide RP for everyone, matching up the newer Players with the veterans so they can share their experiences with one another. I am not here to help gain Power all alone. There are no empires on here made up of one individual, and all Players are judged according to their contributions to the MUSH. Even then one cannot rest on their laurels after so much effort. This is a game that requires lots of attention, however the key is to enjoy your toil here. . . People feel that I am biased against their requests for Power, and claim I am unfair. All I can say is that I apply the one and only standard of their contributions towards RP to their requests. If everyone is treated the same, then I cannot be unfair. Tue Jan 4 Damonias ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ While I think your words were intelligent, and with some merit, I don't think you are basing them on the issue that has just passed. Power is not the nature of ones being. It's unfortunate that that is how things are being measured here. It's also unfortunate that you would state the so painfully obvious. It's almost as though you are fishing for praise for your words, which in itself taints them. So, I'll go as far as to say, I agree with what you say, as I'm sure most people would. But such words should not have been associated with the recent passings, as they merely talk around what was the issue. I shall leave it at that...for now. Damon ============================================================================== ============================ Damned News and Info ============================ Message: 3/35 Posted Author Why Demon Chargen is closed Wed Mar 8 Asmodeus ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As some of you may know Demon character generation has been closed due to overpopulation. This is mostly due to the vast number of needless puppet characters and NPC squads that were chargenned as 'Demon' to take advantage of higher starting attributes. To the owners of these characters I cannot force them to change their puppets' races to 'Human'...but a willing change on their part would speed up the opening of Demon chargen, and would earn the gratitude of the MUSH. Any takers +mail me or Durga for information on how to make these changes. Thank you, Asmo. ============================================================================== ============================ Damned News and Info ============================ Message: 3/37 Posted Author Demonic Characters Wed Mar 8 Ancanus ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gargoyles are symbols of good. Though they are ghoulish and often attached to morbid or gothic structures, they are put in place to fend off demons, they themselves are not demons. If a gargoyle were anything, it would be a cherub... an animalistic creature who is known to guard an area, such as the cherubim in Eden. As for Imps... really, these are decent for brief scenes, perhaps setting a chaotic or humorous mood, or possibly even as puppets, but as characters they suck and they do not represent the damned atall. They're 'funny', light hearted creatures who indulge in sin, they're really no revelations material. As for tempters and temptresses. Since when have we *not* been getting those? A virtually endless stream of demons and demonesses who exist for no purpose but to seek out tinysex(and I'm sure it was intended that other methods than sex be used to attract people to the damned side, but it won't happen. People who play incubare and succubi *always* turn to tinysex.) Tempters and temptresses either need to be scrutinized and policed, or discouraged. My suggestion for character concepts would, firstly, be more fallen-angels. A character who existed pre-fall and fell with Lucifer(preferably) or possibly a short time after. Characters who are in essence 'angels', but fallen, and represent a very morose, forbidding sense of the damned... something ancient and dark, the very essence of the damned. Next would be hellspawn, who are creatures, whether humans turned demon or a manifestation of Hell itself, that are demons yet not fallen angels. Not what we usually recieve, some dark warrior forged by Lucifer himself(because Lucifer did not happen to fall to Hell with the hammer of demon-forging and decide d suddenly to pound out a few extra demons), but rather, creatures who embody the essence of Hell. Chaos, decay, madness, anguish and self-servitude. Lastly, I would suggest pagan gods, goddesses or devils who turned to the damned. In essence, a fae that could not itself stand up against the oppressive force of christianity and professed it's loyalty to the cause of Lucifer. Unique indeed, because they would be allies, but not servants. Anc. ============================================================================== ============================ Damned News and Info ============================ Message: 3/38 Posted Author Quick reply Wed Mar 8 Asmodeus ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gargoyles: As a previously introduced subrace of Demons, Gargoyles are a part of Hell. Just what part are they, and if they hold any relation to carved totem creatures on Earth, is still to be debated. But they exist as a potential branch of demonkind, and as such I am open to making them characters instead of NPC guards/grunts for the Demon Lords. Imps: So there is nothing feasible about imps, eh? Take a look at scenes that imps are in. Invariably they are used as cheap NPC fodder to be squashed by an irate would-be superdemon. Yet they continue to thrive in Hell, despite evidence that the majority of the Underworld commits large-scale genocide against them daily. How the hell does an 'inferior' race manage to survive that offense, and how do they personally feel about such persecution? I could find far more angst in the plight of an imp than I would a Fallen Angel...and that means Armageddon's Playerbase has thus far overlooked a resource of drama to tap into. Tempters/Temptresses: Hey, we can't always sit here pining over God. Hell needs those that offer whatever it be, from sex to money to hidden lore, in exchange for a person's soul. And those remaining Tempter PCs are overworked and understaffer right now...we're driving them like mules. So we need more, and I'm looking to keep our numbers steady. Fallen and other 'Miltonic' Demons: As a Miltonic Player myself I recognize their place in Hell. But we haven't completely lost too many Fallen PCs compared to the other paradigmatic characters. The Hierarchy remains a good source of Fallen drama, and people will always come up with those concepts so I won't have to advertize for them. As an aside, I'm looking for PCs a little more humble in origin as opposed to the ones named in texts. While they are canon, named PCs tend to have akward RP involving other people. But that doesn't mean I'm being bigoted. Whatever people like is fine. Pagan Demons & Etc.: Some good concept ideas. Please continue discussion on Discussion BBoard, to save this board from spam.
