1001 Nights MUX timeline: Ancient History
Note: The information on this page may or may not be ICly known to
your character, depending on their knowledge skills and cultural
background, etc. The information is meant to be "objective", but
of course everyone has their own slant on history.
Calendars: Dates given are as the high priests of Ormaz reckon time,
in years since Zurvan Akarana touched earth.
Followers of Ela count the years from the first new year after the Prophet
established the umma (Community of Believers). Human Krosans use
follow the latter custom. The Ormazdian year starts on the winter solstice
(or a day before or after), using a solar calendar with leap years and
so on to account for the fractional day in a year.
- 0
- Time begins. Zurvan Akarana (Infinite Time) touches the earth.
The gods are born.
- 0 - 1000
- Various races are created. Some are obliterated. At first, they
are just small bands of people, with seasonal villages at best.
By the end of this period, agriculture has taken hold. Divine magic
speeds the development of suitable plants and animals. Elves are
beginning to learn about arcane magic. Dwarves are learning about
stonecraft and metallurgy. Warfare during this period
mostly consists of small but brutal raids.
- 104
- Ormaz teaches dwarves the secret of fire. The first fire is kept alive,
in the first temple of Ormaz.
975
- Nidavellir (the underground city of the dwarves) is founded. The Eternal
Flame is enshrined there.
- 1000 - 6700
- Civilization spreads. Empires spring up all over the place, gobbling
up the smaller tribes and kingdoms. The main conflict is between the
people of Ormaz and the people of Angra Mainyu, with the dragons staying
out of it as much as possible. Populations explode as each side tries
to spawn more for their armies, and more workers to support them.
Death rates soar, but birth rates soar higher. The arms race drives magical
and mundane technology forward, but quality of life is low for most.
- 6692
- Fimbulwinter: the night that never ends. The high level magics
used in the wars result in the sun going out, and the earth's rotation
stilled. The forces involved were of an almost unimaginable magnitude.
All natural life on the surface of the earth is wiped out.
- 6699
- Anahita's Dance: life returns to the world. This time around,
much less magical power is available for mortals to use. Even the
gods are exhausted from Fimbulwinter, and withdraw from the world,
for the most part. This exhaustion will last for thousands of years,
according to the priests.
- 7300
- Empire of Stone and Sky (the Northern Empire) established, with the
Treaty of Stone and Sky, between the main dwarven lines and the elven
Council of Kings. Gnomes, fey, and others also sign on. The Treaty
establishes laws for the relations between the various races, mutual
defense clauses, division of old and new territory, use of resources,
inter-racial adjudication, etc. Ormaz acknowledged as their highest
authority.
- 8300-9120
- Ancient Krosan Empire at its first peak. This is the age of the
Great Kings. Krosa, an empire of humans with Ormaz as their patron,
dominates the area. The empire is in decline by the year 9000.
- 9114
- Iskandar ascends to the kingship and embarks on his conquests, building
an empire stretching from the western sea to the Indies. Krosa falls to
his armies. He is stalled in the mountains trying to conquer the Empire
of Stone and Sky.
- 9152
- Iskandar dies. His empire disintegrates, at first into three pieces,
then into hundreds of bickering kingdoms. Krosa is one of them.
Barbarian tribes of orcs assail the frontiers. Hobgoblins begin consolidating
their power in Chulan Toz, with goblins and orcs under them.
- 9227
- Iskandar II rebuilds the empire. Skandrian Empire. New Skandria.
- 9258
- Zohak murders his father and becomes king of Krosa. His life is magically
prolonged through dark sorceries. Krosa becomes the abode of demons.
- 9306
- Jibril meets Mehemet in the desert.
- 9310 (Year 0 after the Message of God)
- Mehemet establishes the umma, the community of Believers.
The New Religion spreads out from the deserts, establishing the Caliphate.
It is met with resistance by the Skandrian Empire and Krosa.
- 9574 (Year 264 after the Message of God)
- Feridun topples Zohak. Krosan Empire obliterated, except for a small
island flung out into the ocean.
- 10001 (Year 691 after the Message of God)
- Abdul Karim Ibn Fahruk is chosen to be king of Krosa.
- 10011 (Year 701 after the Message of God)
- Today. (I.e. the time the MUSH opens.)
